QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for
employment with the Escambia Sheriff’s Office, candidates
must meet the following minimum qualifications:
• 21 years of
age
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must not currently use, or have used, tobacco products
within the last six months
• Successful completion of a law enforcement course of
study from an academy approved by the Florida Department of
Law Enforcement and passing grade on the Florida Officer Certification
Examination
• Successful completion of a background investigation,
which includes, but is not limited to: employment background,
credit, driving, criminal records, and substance abuse
• Successful completion of a truth detection examination
• Successful completion of a physical/medical examination
by a county appointed physician
• Ability to obtain a Florida Operator’s License
upon offer of employment
• Vision abilities required include: close vision, peripheral
vision, and the ability to adjust focus
• United States Citizen
• Not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor
involving perjury or false statement
• Never have received a dishonorable discharge from any
of the Armed Forces of the United States
• Have good moral character as defined by Florida Statutes

TRAINING
To help officers keep
abreast of the ever-changing law enforcement technologies and
techniques the Escambia Sheriff’s Office offers on-going
training opportunities. Initially, officers go through the Field
Training Program which consists of a four-phase, 44-day curriculum
to train new deputies in the policies and procedures of the
Escambia Sheriff’s Office. Continuing in-house training
programs are offered and designed to enhance officer’s
skills and knowledge and to meet mandatory retaining requirements
of the State of Florida. The Escambia Sheriff’s Office
also offers a tuition reimbursement program to assist employees
in furthering their career interests through area educational
institutions. Additionally, a fully equipped health/fitness
facility is furnished to help officers reach and maintain their
peak physical condition.
